“Implementing the World’s Best Educational Practices: Lessons from Finland” was a public seminar the school held on January 4th, 2019 under the patronage of Her Excellency Ms. Tarja Fernandez, Ambassador of Finland to Lebanon, who expressed how very pleased and proud she was to realize that Goodwill International School will be piloting this program in Lebanon.
The seminar was conducted by Dr. Markus Talvio, a University of Helsinki Educational Psychology professor. More than 150 people attended including parents, staff members, community service personalities, and some day care owners in the region who were invited for the occasion.
This first of its kind informative seminar in Lebanon was part of the awareness campaign that aimed at bringing forth the best educational practices while highlighting the importance of the correlation between Social and Emotional well-being, and their subsequent effects on Academic Performance.
It is GIS’s mission to create a healthy balance between Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Phenomenon Based Learning (PBL) so that our students build a sense of belonging to the school, enjoy being part of the whole team and acquire the necessary skills to prepare for the 21st century work place.
Furthermore, this event was preceded by a two-day workshop for the whole GIS faculty which was also conducted by Dr. Talvio.
